Efficient emission reduction through state-of-the-art technology
Clean air and sustainable energy generation are essential goals of modern power plants. Engineering Dobersek has made a decisive contribution to reducing emissions by supplying and installing a state-of-the-art flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system in the 600 MW unit of the Šoštanj power plant in Slovenia. The system significantly minimizes sulphur dioxide emissions and thus contributes to compliance with strict environmental regulations.

Customer benefits
Efficient emission reduction: SO₂ content in flue gas reduced from 8,200 mg/Nm³ to less than 100 mg/Nm³.
Sustainable water management: Closed water cycle significantly reduces water consumption.
High operational reliability: Robust choice of materials and sophisticated engineering for minimal maintenance and high system availability.
Compliance with strict environmental regulations: The system meets the current EU requirements for emission values.
Optimized process control: Efficient flue gas cleaning with state-of-the-art control technology.
- Flue gas flow rate (wet) at the inlet: 2,100,000 Nm³/h
- SO₂ content at the inlet: 8,200 mg/Nm³ (dry flue gas, 6 % O₂)
- SO₂ content at the outlet: <100 mg/Nm³ (dry flue gas, 6 % O₂)
- Flue gas temperature at the inlet: 150°C
- Proportion of solid particles in the suspension: 15 %
- Proportion of solid particles in the underflow of the hydrocyclone: 55 %
- Number/circulation pump flow rate: 6 units / 12,000 m³/h each
- Spray levels Number/material: 6 pieces / aluminum 31
- Corrosion protection inside the absorber: rubber in the lower part, alloy 59 in the middle and upper part
By combining innovative technology and decades of experience in plant construction, Engineering Dobersek has implemented a high-performance and environmentally friendly flue gas desulphurization solution for the Šoštanj power plant. With this project, we are making an important contribution to sustainable energy generation and to reducing environmental pollution.
