3-stage sludge dewatering system in a diamond mine (completed in 2009)

For the “Njurbinskaya” diamond mine in the Russian Republic of Sakha, we realized a plant for the three-stage dewatering of fine-grained kimberlite ore sludge on behalf of ZAO “AK ALROSA”.
The aim was to mechanically process the residues from ore processing, store them temporarily with little water and integrate them into the existing operation – without building a new landfill and without interrupting production.

Our solution

We developed a three-stage dewatering line consisting of sludge pre-treatment, mechanical thickening and chamber filter presses.
By using flocculants, the sludge could be concentrated to a solids content of 55 % w/w in a targeted manner.

The system was fully integrated into the existing operation – including automated truck loading via a specially adapted conveyor belt system.
